Fournier declares intention to play for France at FIBA EuroBasket 2022

PARIS (France) – Evan Fournier has confirmed his intention to compete at FIBA EuroBasket 2022 in a major boost to the title hopes of France.

The 29-year-old has just concluded his 10th season in the NBA, with the New York Knicks, and now has Europe’s flagship event in his sights.

The French guard chose a rather innovative way to make his intentions clear, by replying to a retweet from French basketball website TrashTalk.

France last won the tournament in 2013 with Fournier part of the squad that earned a bronze medal in 2015 having also played at FIBA EuroBasket 2017 as they suffered an early exit at the hands of Germany in the Round of 16 stage.

Fournier helped France claim a silver medal at the 2020 Olympics last summer and also has two FIBA Basketball World Cup bronze medals in his collection of accolades with the national team.

The road to gold at EuroBasket begins on September 1, 2022 when France take on Group B hosts Germany in Cologne with Slovenia, Lithuania, Hungary and Bosnia and Herzegovina also part of their opponents in the first phase.
