Mulaomerovic steps up as Croatia’s new head coach with EuroBasket on the horizon

head coach of the Croatian national team.

The 47-year-old first joined the coaching staff during the FIBA EuroBasket 2022 Qualifiers and will be formally presented at a press conference on Tuesday. Mulaomerovic takes over from Veljko Mrsic after two and a half years in charge.

A member of the FIBA EuroBasket 2001 All-Star Five, Mulaomerovic represented Croatia at competition as a player on four occasions from 1997-2003 and now has the chance to do so again from the sidelines at the 2022 edition later this year.

Croatia head to Milan for the tournament for Group D action as they come up against Greece, Great Britain, Ukraine, Estonia and co-hosts, Italy as they look to call upon the likes of Bojan Bogdanovic.

Mulaomerovic has previous experience in charge of a national team having led both Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo at international level and has also coached domestically in Croatia in a coaching career that has almost spanned a decade.

The first task for Mulaomerovic will be the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 European Qualifiers with the February window looming. Croatia made a rocky start to their campaign with successive defeats and face an important double-header with Sweden on February 25 and February 28.
