Tenerife beats Sassari Bank

MIES (Switzerland) – With positioning on the line in so many groups of the Basketball Champions League, Group A was an exception, as the standings were already set before tonight’s final regular season games.

Lenovo Tenerife finished the regular season on a high note and showed no mercy to Banco di Sardegna Sassari, defeating the Italian club 84-63.

Tenerife led the game for 38:25 and outscored Sassari by 24 points from the three-point line (12-of-26 compared to 4-of-19).

Marcelinho Huertas (16 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists) and Giorgi Shermadini (16 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists) led the way for Tenerife.

The two players combined to shoot an efficient 11-of-15 from the field and a perfect 8-of-8 from the free-throw line.

“We suffered a bad loss against Ludwigsburg last game and we’ve been struggling a little bit in the league,” said Sean Smith. “So it feels good to win a game after a couple of bad games and a lot of players needed this game to get back in good shape.”

As the second place team from Group A, Tenerife will face the third place team from Group B, which will be Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem, Pinar Karsiyaka or Arged BM Stal Ostrow Wielkopolski.

Tyus Battle led Sassari with 16 points and 7 rebounds in the loss.
